Prologue...

Like many, our lives have taken a series of twists and turns that were not expected. Some things, however, have been more consistent. Our parents both met overseas, Loren's parents in Africa, and Karen's parents in Japan. They returned and were married here, had their eldest (us), and then went overseas again as missionaries. Their experience had a lasting impact, and inspired us serve overseas as well.
Like our parents, we have made a concerted effort to follow God wherever He leads us. He has made it clear in the past few years that He wants us to serve Him on Guam. If, however, you had asked me a few years what I(Loren) would be doing, and where, you would have received a different response. :)

The following stories help illustrate the "never say never" concept. Ten years ago Loren returned from doing medical mission work in India as a college student. He spent time there assisting eye surgeons and general surgeons. His mom asked if he was interested in eye surgery, and he said something to the effect of "no way!"
Fast forward to medical school, when Loren and Karen are considering medical mission work. When the idea of serving on Guam came up, they said "not there."

We expect that God must be smiling as He arranges for us to go to Guam, where Loren will serve as an eye surgeon. :)

Some have asked how long we'll be staying...
Due to our hit-and-miss predictions of future events, we reserve the right to be completely wrong about what comes next. At this point, we've committed to 5 years at the clinic.

We have been very blessed to be surrounded by such supportive family and friends. We look forward to sharing our Guam adventure with you all, as we excitedly await what God has in store for us!

If there is a single thing we ask of you, it would be that you remember us in prayer.
